PRD from messy notes

Turns notes, Slack threads, and call notes into a PRD: problem with evidence, goals and non-goals, metrics, must/should/could requirements, and flagged gaps. Use it when you have scattered notes or a thread about a feature and need a PRD the team can build from.

When to use it

What you give it

What you get

A Markdown PRD with problem, evidence, users, goals, non-goals, metrics table, prioritized requirements, open questions, risks, and gaps.

How it works

  1. Pull out the problem and its evidence
  2. Name the users
  3. Separate goals from non-goals
  4. Set success metrics
  5. Write requirements as must/should/could (MoSCoW)
  6. List open questions and risks
  7. Mark the source of each claim

Example

What you give it

> Slack, Dana (CS): 3 customers this week asked to invite their accountant without paying for a seat. > Call notes, Marco (founder): "Read-only seat? Maybe free. Don't want to build roles yet." > Ravi (eng): we'd need a permission check on every write endpoint, maybe 2 weeks.

What you get back (the start of it)

PRD: Free read-only seat for accountants

Author: [name] · Status: Draft · Last updated: [date]

Problem

Customers can't give their accountant access to their books without paying for a full seat.

Evidence

  • 3 customer requests in one week (Dana, CS, Slack).

Users

  • Primary: an account owner who needs their accountant to review numbers each month.
  • Secondary: the accountant, who views but never edits.
