Claude skills for sales: the five to set up first

The Claude skills a sales team gets most from are five: account research before a call, a first outreach email, discovery call prep, call notes turned into CRM fields and next steps, and a deal review against your qualification method. Each is a short set of instructions Claude loads when a rep asks for that task, written from what your best rep does, with their real examples. Start with one, usually the deal review or the first email, and add the others once reps use it without being reminded.

Short answer

  • Research and first email: before the first contact.
  • Discovery prep and call notes: around each call.
  • Deal review: weekly, for the manager.
  • Put your team in each: your best rep's examples, your banned words, your CRM fields.

The five skills

SkillThe rep asksPut in from your team
Account research"Research Harbor Dental before Thursday"Which facts matter for your product; public sources only
First email"First email to their practice manager"Three emails that got replies; words you never use; length
Discovery call prep"Prep my call with Harbor"Your discovery questions in order; what disqualifies a lead
Call notes to CRM"Notes from the call, for the CRM"Your CRM fields in order; next step with a date
Deal review"Review the Harbor deal"Your qualification method; what counts as evidence

A worked example: a rep's Monday

Illustration: a made-up business. Leo sells practice software to dental clinics. On Monday he has two calls and a pipeline review.

  • 9:00 "Research Harbor Dental, call at 11." The research skill returns three facts that matter (three chairs, opening a second site, on paper appointment books) and one opening question.
  • 11:40 He pastes his call notes: "Notes for the CRM." The skill fills stage, pain, decision maker, next step (demo with the owner, Thursday 2pm).
  • 15:00 "Review the Harbor deal." The deal review scores it against the team's method, marks the economic buyer as unconfirmed, and suggests asking the practice manager to bring the owner to Thursday's demo.

None of this needed a prompt. Leo asked in plain words, and Claude matched each request to a skill by its description. His manager gets the same review format from all six reps.

Set them up

  1. Pick the first skill by where the team loses most time; for managers, usually the deal review.
  2. Ask your best rep to explain how they do it, for 15 minutes, and collect three real examples.
  3. Write the skill: a name, a "use when" description in reps' words, the steps, the examples. Making your first Claude skill covers the file.
  4. Test it on three real deals before giving it to the team.
  5. Add the next skill once reps use the first without reminders.

Next step: the whole team on the same skills

A skill in one rep's Claude helps one rep. Getting all of them on the same version, including the rep on ChatGPT and the freelancer who books meetings, is a sharing question: the best ways to share AI skills with a team compares the options. Questions

What Claude skills are useful for sales?

Five cover most of a rep's week: account research before a call, a first outreach email, discovery call preparation, call notes turned into CRM fields and next steps, and a deal review against your qualification method.

Can I put CRM data into a Claude skill?

Keep data out of the skill itself; it holds the method. Paste the deal's notes into the chat when you use it, in a company account (Claude Team doesn't train on your data by default) and within your contracts.

How do sales reps use a Claude skill?

They ask for the task in plain words, such as 'review the Brightsmile deal, notes below', and Claude loads the matching skill by its description. Typing the skill's name also works.

AI skill

Have your AI review a deal and find its gaps

Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Start with the one managers feel first: Deal review with MEDDICC or BANT has your AI score a deal from a rep's notes, with the evidence for each part, the gaps and the next action.
