Claude skills libraries: where to find skills, and what to check first
Ready-made Claude skills come from six places. Inside Claude, under Customize > Skills, there are Anthropic's own skills for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, and partner skills from companies such as Notion, Figma and Atlassian, built to work with their connectors. Outside it, Anthropic's skills repository on GitHub has example skills you can read and copy, Claude Code can install skills from plugin marketplaces, the skills.sh directory lists public skills for coding agents, and team libraries hold skills written for a job. Whichever you use, read the SKILL.md and any scripts before installing, because a skill runs when Claude uses it, and rewrite the description in your team's words before you share it.
Short answer
- In Claude: Anthropic and partner skills, Customize > Skills.
- On GitHub: Anthropic's examples; plugin marketplaces for Claude Code.
- Directories: skills.sh for coding agents; team libraries for jobs.
- Before installing: read it, check the publisher, test it.
Where the skills are
| Library | What's in it | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic skills | Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF file creation, on for all users | Documents; Claude uses them by itself |
| Skills Directory partner skills | Skills from Notion, Figma, Atlassian and others, built for their connectors | Work inside those tools |
| anthropics/skills on GitHub | Example skills for design, development and company communications | Reading how good skills are written |
| Claude Code plugin marketplaces | Skills packaged as plugins, including Anthropic's repository | Developers in Claude Code |
| skills.sh | Public skills from GitHub, ranked by installs, installed with a command | Coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex |
| Team libraries | Skills written for one job, such as this site's library | Sales, HR, finance and operations work |

Check a skill before installing it
- Read the SKILL.md: does it do one job, and say when to use it?
- Read every script in the folder; a skill's code runs when Claude uses it.
- Check the publisher: a named company or person, a licence, a place to report problems.
- Try it on one real task in a new chat, with nothing confidential in it.
- Make it yours before sharing it: your words, your rules, your example.
A worked example: from library skill to team skill
Illustration: a made-up business. The operations lead at a 30-person company finds a meeting minutes skill in a library. It works, but writes "Action items" as a list with no owners, and her team says "recap", not "minutes". She asks Claude to turn it into the team's version:
---
name: team-meeting-recap
description: Writes a team meeting recap from a transcript or notes: decisions, actions with one owner and a date each, open questions. Use when someone asks for a recap, minutes or meeting notes.
---
1. Decisions: only what was agreed. A proposal nobody agreed goes under Open questions.
2. Actions: one named person, a verb, a date or "no date yet". Never "the team".
3. Open questions, then three to five lines of discussion, then topics not covered.
Template, example and checks follow.
She tests it on three real transcripts, one of them a messy all-hands. One action came back owned by "marketing"; the skill now says to ask for a name instead. The description stays under 200 characters, so it also uploads to claude.ai. Only then does she share it.
Next step: sharing the skills
Once the team has its own skills, everyone's AI needs the same copy. The cheapest way to share AI prompts with a small team compares the options. For the file itself, see the SKILL.md format explained. Methods kept in Gemini Gems can join the same library: moving Gems to skills before 17 November shows how to download each one as a SKILL.md.
Skills for this
- AI practiceTurn a prompt into a skillTurns a prompt that works into a skill the whole team can reuse, with a valid name, a when-to-use description, steps, an output template, an example, and checks.
- AI practiceReview an MCP connector before connectingReviews an MCP server or connector before the team connects it: who runs it, each tool sorted read or write, sign-in, data, approvals, and a decision.
- AI practiceEval set for an AI taskBuilds a 20-to-50-case eval set for an AI task: normal, edge, and adversarial cases, expected results or rubrics, pass criteria, and a re-run routine.
- Operations and adminSOP from an explanation or recordingTurns an explanation or screen-recording transcript into an SOP with a trigger, roles, exact-label steps, decision points, checks, and an owner.
Questions
Where can I find Claude skills?
In Claude, under Customize > Skills: Anthropic's own skills for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, and partner skills from companies such as Notion, Figma and Atlassian. Outside it: Anthropic's skills repository on GitHub, Claude Code plugin marketplaces, the skills.sh directory, and team libraries such as the one on this site.
Are skills from a library safe to install?
Not by default. A skill is instructions and sometimes scripts that run when Claude uses it, so read the SKILL.md and every script before installing, check who publishes it, and try it on a real task. skills.sh runs security audits but says it can't guarantee every skill; Anthropic calls its repository's skills demonstrations.
Should my team use library skills as they are?
Use them as a starting point. A library skill knows the task, not your team: rewrite the description in the words your team types, add your rules and an example of your own output, and test it on real inputs before sharing it.
AI skill
Have your AI turn a prompt that works into a skill your team can reuse
Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Turn a prompt into a skill turns a library skill or a prompt that works into your team's version: a valid name, a when-to-use description in your team's words, steps with your rules, an output template, an example and checks, tested on real inputs.
