How to share prompts in LibreChat, and when to make a skill

In LibreChat you save a prompt from the Prompts panel, and its owner shares it with users, groups or roles as Viewer, Editor or Owner, once an admin has given their role the share permission. Teammates pick it from the prompt library or type / in the chat box, and each saved edit is a new version, with the one marked Production in use. For a method the AI should apply without anyone picking it, LibreChat also takes skills, SKILL.md files shared with the same roles, and the same file can go into AI Skill Pod so colleagues outside LibreChat get it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise) from one invite link.

Short answer

  • Share: Viewer, Editor or Owner, to users, groups or roles.
  • Needs: the SHARE permission on your role.
  • Use: the Prompts panel, or type /.
  • Applied without picking: a SKILL.md skill.

Share a prompt in LibreChat

  1. Create it: open Prompts in the side panel, click +, enter a name and the prompt text, add a description and a command alias, and click Create Prompt.
  2. Add variables for what changes, written in double curly braces, such as a notes field; LibreChat asks for the values when someone uses the prompt.
  3. Share it with the users, groups or roles who need it: Viewer to use it, Editor to change it.
  4. Teammates use it from the Prompts panel, or by typing / and the name or command alias.
  5. Edit it later: each save makes a new version, and the library and the / menu use the one marked Production.

From LibreChat's docs, read 5 November 2026, 20:01 JST. With the advanced prompts editor on and automatic Production off, a saved version needs Deploy before teammates get it.

A worked example: a self-hosted team and three outside it

Illustration: a made-up business. A 15-person engineering team runs LibreChat on its own servers, and three people also work in Claude Code and Cursor. The staff engineer:

  1. Shares the "PR description" prompt with the Engineering group as Viewer, keeping Owner herself, so edits go through her.
  2. Turns the release-notes method into a skill, with the name release-notes and the description "Writes release notes from merged pull requests: user-facing changes first, then fixes. Use when preparing a release."
  3. Uploads the SKILL.md under Skills in LibreChat and shares it with the group, whose admin made shared skills active by default.
  4. Adds the same skill to the team's pod, so the three get it in Claude Code and Cursor.

AI Skill Pod is this site's product. Pod pricing: Free up to 3 members and 10 skills; Team $5 per seat a month from 3 seats.

Next step: write the first skill

A prompt your team already shares is the easiest first skill. How to make your first Claude skill from a doc you have walks through it.

Questions

How do I share a prompt in LibreChat?

Open the prompt you own and share it with users, groups or roles as Viewer, Editor or Owner. Viewers can use it from the Prompts panel or by typing / and its name or command alias. Your role needs the SHARE permission, or SHARE_PUBLIC to share it with everyone.

Why can't I share prompts in LibreChat?

Sharing depends on your role's permissions, which an admin sets in the Admin Panel or the access-control configuration: SHARE for chosen people, groups or roles, SHARE_PUBLIC for everyone. LibreChat's docs say the share permission for skills is off by default for regular users, so ask your admin.

Does LibreChat support SKILL.md skills?

Yes. Open Skills in the side panel, click +, and write a skill or upload a .md file, or a .zip or .skill archive with a SKILL.md inside. The agent loads a skill when a request matches its description, and you can also pick one by typing $.

AI skill

Have your AI turn a prompt that works into a skill your team can reuse

Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Turn a prompt into a skill has your AI turn a LibreChat prompt into a SKILL.md that LibreChat uploads and Claude and ChatGPT read too: a valid kebab-case name, a description that says when to use it, numbered steps, an output template, an example and checks.
