skills.sh vs a team skill pod: which fits your team

skills.sh and a team skill pod solve different halves of the same problem. skills.sh, made by Vercel, is a public directory of agent skills with an open-source command line tool: npx skills add installs skills from a GitHub repository into coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, and packs can bundle public and private skills into one install command. skills.sh lists no price and the CLI is open source; it fits developers who want public skills, or the team's skills kept in GitHub. A team skill pod, such as AI Skill Pod, keeps the team's private skills in one place and serves them to each person's Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents through one link, so an edit reaches everyone without a reinstall. Choose by who uses the skills: developers only, skills.sh; a mixed team in chat apps, a pod.

Short answer

  • skills.sh: public skills into coding agents, from GitHub; open-source CLI.
  • A team pod: private skills served to chat apps and coding agents.
  • Developers only: skills.sh with a pack.
  • A mixed team or contractors: a pod.

A worked example: a nine-person agency

Illustration: a made-up business. A nine-person agency has three developers in Claude Code and Cursor, and six account and content people in ChatGPT and Claude, two of them freelancers on their own accounts. It agrees the criteria and weights before looking at either. The must-have, pass or fail: client skills stay private. Both pass.

Criterion (weight)skills.shTeam pod
Reaches the six in chat apps (35)1: built for coding agents (docs)4: chat apps listed (vendor claim, unverified)
Private skills (25)4: packs from private repositories (docs)5: private by default (vendor claim, unverified)
Cost over 2 years (20)[check: price; skills.sh lists none, and the CLI is open source][check: price for nine seats on the pricing page]
Updates reach everyone (12)3: each person runs an update (FAQ)4: next chat (vendor claim, unverified)
Public skills to choose from (8)5: large public leaderboard3: the pod's library

The weighted totals wait for both price checks, but the first row decides it here: six of nine people work in chat apps. The agency trials the pod with two account managers and one freelancer for two weeks, to turn the unverified scores into tested ones. The developers keep using skills.sh for public coding skills alongside it.

Choose

  1. Count who uses the skills: coding agents only, or chat apps too.
  2. Developers only: skills.sh, with a pack for the team's private repositories.
  3. Chat-app users or contractors on their own accounts: a pod, trialled on a few people first.
  4. Read any public skill before installing it; skills.sh says it can't guarantee every skill.
  5. Write every skill in SKILL.md, so it moves between either.

Questions

What is skills.sh?

A public directory of agent skills made by Vercel, with an open-source CLI: npx skills add owner/repo installs skills from a GitHub repository into coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex. It ranks skills by anonymous install counts, and packs bundle public and private skills into one install command.

Is skills.sh good for a team's private skills?

For developers, it can be: a pack can include skills from private GitHub repositories, and npx skills update pulls new versions. It's built around coding agents and the command line, so teammates who work in the Claude or ChatGPT chat apps need another way to get the same skills.

When does a team skill pod fit better?

When the team mixes people in chat apps and in coding agents, includes contractors on their own accounts, or wants an edit to reach everyone without each person reinstalling. A pod serves one copy of each skill to every person's AI. That's the pod's own description, so try it on your team before relying on it.

Have your AI compare vendors on what matters to you

Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Vendor comparison with weighted scores has your AI compare tools the way a buyer should: criteria and weights agreed before scoring, must-haves as pass or fail, scores with their evidence, whole-life cost over the term, risks per option, and claims only the vendor makes marked unverified.
