Guide
How to track your team's AI use, once a month
Seats bought aren't seats used, so track a team's AI use once a month from the numbers the tools already give you. Claude Team and Enterprise have a usage analytics dashboard: weekly active members against assigned seats, how people use Claude, which skills and connectors they use, and spend. OpenAI documents user analytics for ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu: usage for each user, with a per-user export and no message content. Pick three or four measures, give each a target, and write one monthly summary: each measure against last month and target, a status, a reason only where you know one, and three things to act on. The point is a decision each month, such as who needs help or which skill nobody uses, not a chart.
Short answer
- Claude: Analytics for Team and Enterprise owners.
- ChatGPT: user analytics on Enterprise and Edu.
- Track three or four measures, each with a target.
- Monthly: status, reasons from facts, three actions.
What to track
| Measure | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly active members ÷ seats | Claude: Analytics, active members and assigned seats. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu: active users | Whether the seats are used |
| Uses of the shared skills | Claude: Analytics, skills | Whether the team's methods are used, or one skill is dead |
| Connector use | Claude: Analytics, connectors (users, read and write actions) | Whether tools you approved are used, and how much they write |
| Spend, if usage-based | Claude: Analytics, spend; spend report CSV | Whether cost follows use |

A worked example
Illustration: a made-up business. A 25-seat company on Claude Team set targets in September: 18 weekly active members, and 40 uses a month of its proposal skill. The operations lead pulls October's numbers from Analytics, adds two facts she knows (the proposal skill was shared with sales on 6 October; the warehouse group has no active members) and writes the summary:
| Measure | Sept → Oct | Target | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly active members | 12 → 15 (+25%) | 18 (16.7% below) | Off track |
| Proposal skill uses | 40 → 64 (+60%) | 40 | On track: shared with sales on 6 October |
| Recap skill uses | 30 → 22 (−26.7%) | None set | No target: reason not given |
From the summary
Headline: weekly active members rose to 15 but are 3 short of the 18 target, while the proposal skill passed its target after it was shared with sales.
Act on: 1. Active members: a 20-minute session for the warehouse team, which has no active members (operations lead). 2. Recap skill: ask the two heaviest users why use fell. 3. Seats: keep all 25 until the November numbers.
Gaps: a target for the recap skill; why its use fell.
Set it up
- Find who can see the numbers: on Claude Team, Owners and Primary Owners.
- Pick three or four measures and set a target for each before the first month.
- Write one summary a month with a status per measure and three actions.
- Explain changes only with facts; "reason not given" is an honest answer.
- Review targets each quarter, and drop a measure nobody acts on.
Next step: pruning what isn't used
The skills numbers show which shared skills nobody uses. Keeping team AI skills from sprawling covers what to do about them. For a new rollout, the AI pilot plan sets the baseline first.

Questions
How do I see how my team uses Claude?
On Claude Team, Owners and Primary Owners open Analytics from the menu under their initials; on Enterprise, Admins can too, except for spend. It shows weekly active members against assigned seats, adoption, which skills and connectors are used, results and spend. Claude's help page also describes exporting a spend report as a CSV.
Can I see ChatGPT usage for my team?
OpenAI documents user analytics for ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu, read through search results: people with analytics access, such as an analytics viewer role, see usage for each user and can export a per-user report; message content isn't included. For Business, check what your admin console shows.
What should I track about a team's AI use?
A few measures with targets: active members against seats, use of the shared skills you rely on, and, if you pay for usage, spend. Review them once a month, give each a status against its target, explain changes only with facts, and pick three things to act on.

Have your AI write the monthly KPI summary for leadership
Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Monthly KPI summary for leadership turns the dashboard's numbers into a monthly summary: each measure against last month and its target, a status, reasons only from what you know, a one-sentence headline, three things to act on, and the gaps.
