Guide
ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team for a small team
ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cover the same ground for a small team. Both start at two people, keep your business data out of model training by default, and include admin controls and SSO, projects you can share, skills you can share with the team, and custom connectors that admins or owners add. The differences are narrower: Claude Team is for 2 to 150 people, and ChatGPT Business still runs custom GPTs, which OpenAI retires on 11 December 2026. Most teams should choose by the assistant they already write in, then check the cost for their number of people on each vendor's pricing page, linked below with the date read.
Short answer
- Both: no training on business data by default, admin, SSO, shared projects and skills.
- Claude Team: 2 to 150 people.
- ChatGPT Business: 2 or more users; custom GPTs end 11 December 2026.
- Choose by the assistant your team already uses; price it on the vendors' pages.

A worked example: a 12-person studio decides
Illustration: a made-up business. A 12-person design studio wants one team plan. Its operations lead, Sam, agrees the criteria and weights with the two partners before looking at either plan, then scores each from 1 to 5 using the vendors' own pages:
| Criterion (weight) | ChatGPT Business | Claude Team |
|---|---|---|
| Fits how we already write (30) | 3: three people use it | 5: nine people use it |
| Cost over two years (25) | [check: price] from the vendor's page | [check: price] from the vendor's page |
| Shared skills (20) | 4: workspace sharing | 4: organization-wide |
| Migration effort (15) | 2: four custom GPTs to move to plugins and re-test before 11 December; owners reported sharing greyed out after the move in September, and a later post says it works now [unverified] | 4: instructions move into skills |
| Admin and SSO (10) | 4 | 4 |
Sam fills the cost row on the day, from each pricing page, for 12 seats over 24 months, and marks every line that comes only from a vendor's marketing as unverified. Before cost, Claude Team leads; he recommends it for two reasons, the nine people already using Claude and the custom GPTs ending, and names cost as the tie-breaker if the totals come out far apart.
How to choose
- Count who already uses which assistant, and for what.
- Agree the criteria and weights before anyone looks at prices.
- List the tools you need to connect, and check each vendor's connector page for them.
- Price both on the day, for your seats and billing, over the contract term.
- If you have custom GPTs, plan their move before 11 December 2026; see custom GPTs end on 11 December.

Questions
What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and Claude Team?
On paper they're close: both are team plans from two people, keep business data out of training by default, and include admin controls, SSO, shared projects, shared skills and admin-added custom connectors. Claude Team stops at 150 people; ChatGPT Business still has custom GPTs, which OpenAI retires on 11 December 2026. Most teams choose by the assistant they already write in.
Is ChatGPT Business or Claude Team cheaper?
Prices change and depend on seat type and billing, so check each vendor's pricing page on the day you compare and work out the cost for your number of people over the contract term. We link both pages instead of quoting prices.
Can I share skills on both plans?
Yes. In ChatGPT Business you share a skill with people, groups or the whole workspace; on Claude Team, owners turn skills on for the organization. If your team uses both, a skill written to the open SKILL.md format can live in both.
