Claude skills for customer success: the five to set up first
The Claude skills a customer success team gets most from are five: an onboarding plan for each new account, call notes for the CRM, a churn-risk note, a quarterly business review outline and an expansion plan. Each is a short set of instructions Claude loads when a CSM's request matches its description, filled with your success criteria, risk levels and CRM fields. Write each once and share it through AI Skill Pod, and every CSM gets the same version in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise) from one invite link, so managers read one format across accounts.
Short answer
- Onboarding plan: each new account.
- Call notes: after each call.
- Churn-risk note: when usage drops.
- QBR and expansion plan: each quarter.
The five skills
| Skill | The CSM asks | Put in from your team |
|---|---|---|
| Customer onboarding plan | "Onboarding plan for Lindgren Dental" | Your milestones to first value, owners, the success criteria you agree with customers |
| Call notes for the CRM | "Notes from today's call, for the CRM" | Your CRM fields in order; next step with a date |
| Churn-risk note | "Is Lindgren at risk?" | What evidence counts, your risk levels with examples, who to alert |
| QBR outline | "QBR for Lindgren next Tuesday" | Your slide order, the metrics you report, what never goes in a QBR |
| Expansion plan | "Where can Lindgren grow?" | Your products and seats, the signals that mean a team is ready |
A worked example: a CSM's week
Illustration: a made-up business. Noor manages 30 accounts for a software company that sells to dental groups. Usage at one group fell by a third this month.
- Monday "Is Lindgren at risk?" The churn-risk skill reads the usage export, three open tickets and last month's call notes, rates the risk as high and names the cause: the new office manager was never trained.
- Tuesday after the call: "Notes for the CRM." The fields fill in, with a training session booked for Thursday as the next step.
- Friday "QBR outline for Lindgren." The QBR skill builds the deck outline around the goals the group set at onboarding, with the training gap and its fix as one slide.
Her manager sees the same risk note format from all six CSMs, including the two who work in ChatGPT.
AI Skill Pod is this site's product. You can start on Free at $0, with no card, for up to 3 people and 10 skills; after the 14-day trial, your team stays on Free unless you buy Team ($5 per seat a month from 3 seats) or Business.
Set them up
- Pick the first skill by what managers ask for most; often the churn-risk note.
- Write down what counts as evidence, with two real examples of a healthy account and an account at risk.
- Write the skill: a name, a description in CSMs' own words under 200 characters, the steps and the examples.
- Test it on five real accounts whose outcome you already know.
- Add the next one once CSMs use the first without reminders.
Next step: the whole team on the same version
A skill in one CSM's Claude helps one CSM. Getting every CSM on the same version is a sharing question: the best ways to share AI skills with a team compares the options.

- Customer successChurn-risk note for an accountWrites a churn-risk note on one account: risk level with evidence, a root-cause hypothesis, a save plan with owners and dates, and what to tell the customer.
- Customer successCustomer onboarding planBuilds an onboarding plan for a new customer: success criteria in their terms, milestones to first value with owners, a kickoff agenda, cadence, and risks.
- SalesAccount expansion planBuilds an expansion plan for an existing customer: renewal health, stakeholder map, current use, whitespace, risks, and 90-day plays with owners.
Questions
What Claude skills should a customer success team set up first?
Usually five: a customer onboarding plan, call notes for the CRM, a churn-risk note, a quarterly business review outline and an expansion plan. Start with the one your managers ask for most, often the churn-risk note or the QBR.
Can Claude write a churn-risk note from our data?
Yes, with a skill that says what evidence counts: usage trends, open tickets, the last calls and the renewal date, plus your risk levels with examples. Paste or connect the account's data, and the skill returns the risk level with its evidence and next steps.
How do all CSMs use the same QBR format?
Put the format in a skill and share it with the team. On Claude Team or Enterprise an owner can provision it for everyone; if some CSMs use ChatGPT, a pod gives them the same skill.
