Claude Team vs Enterprise: what changes for skills and sharing

For sharing skills and projects, Claude Team and Enterprise do the same job: owners deploy skills to everyone, colleagues share projects, and your data isn't used for training by default. Enterprise is for when you also need the controls a larger or regulated company asks for: SCIM provisioning, audit logs, role-based access, a compliance API and custom data retention. It needs at least 20 seats at $20 a seat billed yearly, plus usage at API rates; Team is $25 a seat billed monthly or $20 yearly, for 2 to 150 people.

Short answer

  • Under 20 people: Team. Enterprise needs 20 seats.
  • Need SCIM, audit logs or custom retention: Enterprise.
  • Only want to share skills: both do it; Team is enough.
  • Budgeting Enterprise: add usage at API rates to the seat price.

A worked example: a 35-person firm

Illustration: a made-up business. A 35-person accounting firm uses Claude Team. Partners want three things this year: shared skills for client letters and month-end checklists, an audit trail of who used what for their professional-liability insurer, and automatic account removal when staff leave, through their identity provider.

  • Shared skills: Team already does it. The office manager deploys the two skills to the organization.
  • Audit trail: Team doesn't include audit logs. Enterprise does.
  • Automatic removal: that's SCIM provisioning, Enterprise only.

Two of their three needs point to Enterprise, so the question becomes cost: 35 seats at $20 billed yearly, plus their usage at API rates, against 35 Team seats at $20 yearly with none of those controls. The firm asks for an estimate of its usage before deciding. If only the first need had mattered, Team would have been the answer.

What neither plan covers

Both plans share skills inside one Claude organization. Two common gaps remain:

  • Colleagues on other AI tools. A marketer on ChatGPT or an engineer on Cursor doesn't see skills deployed in Claude.
  • People outside the organization. A freelancer on their own Claude account needs a seat you pay for, or another route. Giving contractors your team's AI skills covers it.

A shared skill library that each person's AI connects to reaches both. AI Skill Pod is one: Free for up to 3 members and 10 skills, Team at $5 per seat a month, and on Business you can keep contractors to the skills they need. Smaller team? See Claude Team vs Pro.

How to decide

  1. Count seats. Under 20, Enterprise isn't available yet; choose Team.
  2. List the controls you're asked for by clients, insurers or auditors: audit logs, SCIM, retention, IP restrictions.
  3. If none apply, Team covers skills and projects.
  4. If some do, ask Anthropic for an Enterprise estimate that includes your usage, and compare the yearly total.

Questions

What's the difference between Claude Team and Enterprise?

Both are company plans with shared projects, skills for the organization, SSO and no training on your data by default. Enterprise adds what larger or regulated companies need: SCIM provisioning, audit logs, role-based access, a compliance API, custom data retention, IP allowlisting and spend limits. It needs at least 20 seats and charges usage at API rates on top of the seat.

Do I need Claude Enterprise to share skills across the company?

No. Team owners can deploy skills to the whole organization too. Enterprise adds role-based access and audit logs around the organization, not a different way of sharing skills.

Is Claude Enterprise cheaper than Team?

The seat price can look lower ($20 a seat billed yearly), but Enterprise adds usage at API rates and needs at least 20 seats. Compare your expected usage, not the seat price alone.
