Notion's guest limit, and what it means for contractors

Notion's Free plan allows 10 guests, and on Plus, Business and Enterprise its pricing page marks the guest limit with a check and no number; Notion's help says only that limits vary by plan. Guests are free, but they open only the pages they're invited to, anyone on your company's email domain is added as a paid member instead, and Notion's developer docs say only members can connect Notion MCP, so a guest's AI can't read your pages. For contractors who need your AI instructions rather than your pages, share those as skills through AI Skill Pod: everyone gets them in their own Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise) from one invite link, with no Notion seat.

Short answer

  • Free: 10 guests. Paid plans: no number shown.
  • Guests are free; company-domain addresses become paid members.
  • Guests open only the pages they're invited to.
  • No Notion MCP for guests: share AI instructions another way.

What a guest can and can't do

  • Opens only invited pages, not the workspace's teamspaces in the sidebar.
  • Has one access level per page: Full access (edit and share), Can edit, Can comment or Can view.
  • Can't connect Notion MCP, so their Claude or ChatGPT can't read your Notion pages through it.
  • Isn't a guest at all on your domain: an address on an allowed email domain, the workspace owner's domain or a verified domain joins as a paid member, whatever the guest count.

A worked example: four staff, twelve freelancers

Illustration: a made-up business. A four-person design agency on Notion Plus works with twelve freelancers. On Free it would be over the limit of 10 guests; on Plus, the agency's owner adds each freelancer as a guest to the project pages they work on, using the freelancer's own email address. The freelancers also need the agency's brief-writing and client-email rules in their own AI, and Notion MCP isn't open to guests, so:

  1. Pages stay in Notion, shared per project as Can edit or Can comment.
  2. The rules become two skills in the agency's pod, and each freelancer joins from the invite link with the AI they already pay for.
  3. When a project ends, the owner removes the guest under Settings › People, in the Guests tab, and removes them from the pod.

Before inviting anyone, the owner checks each freelancer's agreement for confidentiality and the return of materials.

AI Skill Pod is this site's product. Pod pricing: Free up to 3 members and 10 skills; Team $5 per seat a month from 3 seats.

Choose how to share with a contractor

  1. Pages they edit: a Notion guest, from their own email address.
  2. Pages they only read: a guest with Can view, or a link that expires.
  3. Your AI instructions: skills they use in their own AI, not a Notion seat.
  4. Everything at once: a paid member seat, if they need the whole workspace.

Questions

How many guests can you have in Notion?

10 guests on the Free plan. Notion's pricing page shows Plus, Business and Enterprise with a check mark and no number for the guest limit, and its help says only that guest limits vary by plan. Check the pricing page for your plan on the day.

Do Notion guests cost money?

No. Notion's pricing FAQ says paid plans charge a fee per member and guests are free, but guests open only the individual pages they're invited to. Anyone on your company's email domain is added as a paid member instead, even under the guest limit.

Can a Notion guest use Notion MCP with their own AI?

No. Notion's developer docs say only workspace members can connect Notion MCP, so a guest's Claude or ChatGPT can't read your Notion pages that way. To give contractors your AI instructions, share them as skills that reach each person's own AI.

Have your AI check a contractor agreement before you sign

Put this skill in AI Skill Pod and everyone on your team gets it in their Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT (Pro, Business, Enterprise): one invite link, free to start. Contractor agreement checklist has your AI check a contractor agreement before you invite anyone: the scope, who owns the work, confidentiality and return of materials, payment, how it ends, and signs the person is really an employee.
