Guide
Which ChatGPT plan should a small business choose?
ChatGPT has four plans for one person (Free, Go, Plus and Pro), Business for teams from two users, and Enterprise through OpenAI's sales team. For a small business the choice turns on two questions: does the work use company or client data, and do people need to share projects, skills and connectors? On Free, Plus and Pro, model training is on until each person turns it off. Business keeps business data out of training by default and adds a workspace with admin controls, SAML SSO, shared skills and connectors that admins add. So a founder working alone can stay on Plus with training off, two or more people doing company work belong on Business, and Enterprise is for when SCIM, role-based access controls or data residency is written down as a requirement. Check the prices on OpenAI's pricing page on the day you buy.
Short answer
- One person, light use: Free or Go.
- One person, daily: Plus, or Pro for heavy use, with training turned off.
- Two or more doing company work: Business.
- SCIM, role-based access, data residency: Enterprise.
The plans side by side
| Plan | For | Training on your chats | Sharing and connectors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Trying ChatGPT | On until you turn it off | Projects shared by invitation or a link |
| Go | Light use by one person | Check Settings > Data controls | Projects shared by invitation or a link |
| Plus | Daily use by one person | On until you turn it off | Projects shared by invitation or a link. OpenAI doesn't list ChatGPT Plus for custom MCP connectors. |
| Pro | Heavy use, at three usage levels | On until you turn it off | Custom connectors read and fetch only |
| Business | Teams from two users | Off by default | A workspace: projects shared with people, groups or a link, skills shared with people, groups or everyone, connectors added by admins |
| Enterprise | Identity, compliance or residency requirements | Off by default | As Business, plus SCIM, role-based access controls and data residency |
From OpenAI's pricing docs, Business page and help center, read 5 November 2026; the data controls and projects pages through search-result text, because they block automated reads. The data controls help names Free, Plus and Pro for the default; for Go, check the setting in your account.
A worked example: a seven-person studio
Illustration: a made-up business. A seven-person design studio lists what it pays for AI before it chooses a plan. The founder and two designers each expense a Plus subscription, billed monthly. One of the designers also pays for Claude Pro. Of the four others on ChatGPT Free, two paste client briefs into it.
| Tool | Seats paid / used in 90 days | Act by | Call |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus, 3, monthly | 3 / 3 | Each card's next renewal | Replace with Business seats |
| Claude Pro, 1, monthly | 1 / 0 (no login in 90 days) | Its next renewal | Cancel: same job as ChatGPT. Export the chats first |
| ChatGPT Free, 2 people with client briefs | Not paid | Now | Move to Business: client data off personal accounts |
The studio opens a Business workspace with five seats: the three on Plus and the two who handle client briefs. The other two don't use AI for client work and don't get a seat. Saving: [check: the Business per-user price, monthly and yearly, on the pricing page], against the three expensed Plus subscriptions and Claude Pro. The founder bills monthly for the first three months while the seat count settles, then moves to yearly.
Decide in four questions, then price it
- Does anyone put company or client data in? Then not a personal plan with training on; at least turn it off, and prefer Business.
- Do two or more people need the same projects, skills or connectors? Business.
- Is SCIM, role-based access or data residency written in a contract or policy? Enterprise; ask OpenAI's sales team for a quote.
- Otherwise it's one person: Plus with training off, Pro if they hit the limits, Go or Free for light use.
- Price your seat count over 12 months on both billing options, from the pricing page on the day you buy.

Questions
Which ChatGPT plan is best for a small business?
Business, once two or more people use ChatGPT for company or client work. It keeps business data out of model training by default and adds a shared workspace: admin controls, SAML SSO, projects and skills shared across the team, and connectors that admins add. A founder working alone can use Plus with training turned off in Data controls; Enterprise is for when SCIM, role-based access controls or data residency is a written requirement.
Is ChatGPT Plus enough for a business?
For one person, often. Plus is one person's account: OpenAI's help, read through search results, says model training is on by default on Free, Plus and Pro until you turn it off; there's no admin who can remove access when someone leaves; and OpenAI doesn't list ChatGPT Plus for custom MCP connectors. Once a second person needs the same projects, skills or company data, Business fits better. What OpenAI's terms say about using Plus for work: Can you use Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus for work?
How much do ChatGPT plans cost?
OpenAI lists the prices on its pricing page, linked below with the date we read it. Business is billed per user, with a lower rate when billed yearly. Work out the cost for your number of people over a year, on both billing options, before you choose.
